MOUND MUSEUM LECTURE SERIES SPOTLIGHTS

THE MAN WHO SAVED THE WORLD — The Mound Science and Energy Museum (MSEM) is pleased to announce that on February 26, 2014, Ken Phipps will discuss and show the one-hour PBS’ presentation “The Man Who Saved the World.” For four hours on Oct. 27, 1962, the world held its breath, when the Cuban Missile Crisis was at its most perilous. This feature tells the powerful but forgotten story of Vasili Arkhipov and Soviet submarine B-59. “The Man Who Saved the World” combines tense drama with eyewitness accounts and expert testimony about some of the most critical events in the Cold War.

Ken will discuss the event and hold a Q&A session. Ken received a BA in Chemistry from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale in 1960. He was employed at the Mound from 1960-1962 as a Development Chemist, then as a Development Supervisor. He also served six years as SW Building Manager.

This presentation will occur on Wednesday evening, February 26, 2014, at 7:00PM at the Mound Science and Energy Museum, 1075 Mound Road, Miamisburg, Ohio 45342. The museum is located directly across Mound Road from the historic Adena Indian Mound. For additional details contact: Ray Seiler at 937-434-5280, or by e-mail at: rseiler711 at me dot com.
