MOUND MUSEUM LECTURE SERIES SPOTLIGHTS

REMEDIATION INCLUDING THE CANAL PROJECT — The Mound Science and Energy Museum (MSEM) is pleased to announce that on September 25, 2013, Gwen Hooten and Art Kleinrath will present an overview of the Mound Site remediation, including the Canal Project, since the early days of the site shutdown and the environmental cleanup. They will also discuss the DOE Legacy Management role in long-term surveillance at the site. Gwen Hooten is the current US DOE Office of Legacy Management site manager. Before coming to DOE, she worked for the Department of Defense as a Design and Construction Engineer and worked 16 years for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a Remedial Project Manager. She served as a Civil Engineering Officer in the Air National Guard for 10 years. Gwen works out of the Legacy Management office in Westminster, Colorado.

Art Kleinrath worked 12 years for private industry including gas companies, major AE firms, and consulting firms. He joined the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 1985 where he created the model for the Federal Facility Agreements between the Department of Defense and the EPA. He Joined DOE in 1990 at Mound and was a remedial project director for the Office of Environmental Management. In 2000 he transfered to DOE in Grand Junction, Colorado, to form a caretaker group with UMTRCA as it’s core site. That program became the Office of Legacy Management, where he is today. In 2005 he came back to Mound for 5 years as the Mound Site Manager, and then returned to the LM Grand Junction office in 2011.

Their presentation will occur on Wednesday evening, September 25, 2013 at 7:00PM at the Mound Science and Energy Museum, 1075 Mound Road, Miamisburg, Ohio 45342. The museum is located directly across Mound Road from the historic Adena Indian Mound.
