THE 1913 FLOOD AND THE MIAMI CONSERVANCY DISTRICT FLOOD PROTECTION SYSTEM — To kick off our 10th year of our monthly WEDNESDAY NIGHT PRESENTATIONS, on January 28, 2015, THE MOUND SCIENCE & ENERGY MUSEUM is pleased to have Mr. Kurt Rinehart as our special guest speaker. Mr. Rinehart is the Chief Engineer of the Miami Conservancy District, a regional flood protection and water resource management agency in southwestern Ohio. Mr. Rinehart’s topic for the night will be, “The 1913 Flood and the Miami Conservancy District Flood Protection System.” He will discuss the 1913 Flood, origins of flood protections for our communities, and the flood protection system today, nearly 100 years after it was built.

Mr. Reinhart has been with The Miami Conservancy District since 1979, and has served as Chief Engineer for eight years. Mr. Rinehart has oversight of the operations, maintenance, inspection, construction and planning functions related to the Great Miami River flood protection system and the recreational amenities along the river corridor. He is a native of Dayton, and received his Bachelor of Civil Engineering and Master of Public Administration degrees from the University of Dayton. Mr. Rinehart has been active in the dam and levee safety community for many years, and previously served as Chair of the Ohio Dam Safety Organization, President of the Water Management Association of Ohio, and as a member of the Association of State Dam Safety Officials Affiliate Advisory Committee.

His special presentation will take place at the Mound Science and Energy Museum, 1075 Mound Road, Miamisburg, Ohio, on Wednesday, January 28, at 7:00 PM. Presentation is open to the general public and parking is available.
