Summary
SpaceX is developing a revolutionary new launch vehicle called the Starship. Not only is it the most powerful launch vehicle ever, but it will be the world’s first fully reusable launch system. The Starship has been selected to land astronauts on the Moon for the first time in over 50 years, which will probably occur later this decade. The Starship will likely also be used to land the first astronauts on Mars in the 2030s.
Speaker’s Biography
Jerry Black worked in the aerospace industry for over 40 years. He began his career as a Rocket Test Engineer at Bell Aerosystems Company from 1967 to 1968. Following this he worked for 39 years as a Staff Engineer at GE Aviation, where he worked on jet engine development. After retiring in 2008, Jerry continued his passion for the space program through involvement in various space related organizations. A staunch advocate for Mars exploration, Jerry served as chair of the Ohio chapter of the Mars Society from 2009 through 2017 and again from 2022 through February of 2025.
