Pandora’s Promise
MOUND MUSEUM LECTURE SERIES SPOTLIGHTS
PANDORA’S PROMISE — Ken Phipps, retired Development Chemist from Mound Laboratory, will host the next MOUND SCIENCE & ENERGY MUSEUM’S “Wednesday Night Presentation,” on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at 7:00 PM. Ken will show the documentary “Pandora’s Promise,” a no-nonsense documentary on nuclear power from an environmentalist perspective, that SUPPORTS nuclear energy. Contradictory positions? Not really. The documentary looks at the source and the reasoning behind the no-nuke movement. It reveals the basis for those fears without mocking them. It then dives into the actual, non-political science behind nuclear power’s past, failures, and present. It is done in a non-threatening manner that is interesting and compelling.
Ken reminds us that Mound Laboratory had a Reactor Fuels Program in its early years. This research supported the Nuclear Powered Airplane Program and the Commercial Nuclear Power Program. Ken received a BA in Chemistry from Southern University, Carbondale, IL. in 1960. He was employed at Mound from 1960 to 1992 as a Development Chemist, then as a Development Supervisor. He also served six years as SW Nuclear Facility Building Manager.
Ken’s presentation will take place at the MOUND SCIENCE & ENERGY MUSEUM, 1075 Mound Rd., Miamisburg, OH. on April 22, 2015, at 7:00 PM.
