A BETTER MOUSE TRAP? No – A BETTER TRITIUM AIR MONITOR — This presentation will describe the development of a Mound innovation and subsequent applications of a low cost, highly sensitive method for the measurement of tritiated water (i.e., HTO) and molecular Hydrogen-Tritium (HT) in air. The tritium collected by the bubblers is measured by liquid scintillation counting. This gas bubbler technology was found to be very reliable and adaptable. Several applications of this method of tritium air sampling were used at Mound Laboratory for over three decades and these will be briefly described.
Warren Sheehan Biography
He is a 1955 graduate of Wilmington College with a B.S. degree in Chemistry and Biology. He worked for the NCR Research Division before coming to Mound in April 1956. He worked at
Mound until 1989, being involved with Bioassay, Health Physics, Dosimetry and Environmental Monitoring. Warren is a former board member of the Mound Science and Energy Museum
Robert Bowman, PhD Biography
He holds B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry and was employed as a research staff member at the Mound Laboratory from 1969 until 1984. Bob is currently a Distinguished Staff
Member at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and is also a board member of the Mound Science and Energy Museum Association.
