MOUND MUSEUM LECTURE SERIES SPOTLIGHTS
Summary
Since 2012, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Legacy Management has had long-term stewardship responsibilities at the Mound Site in Miamisburg, Ohio. Learn about the broader Legacy Management mission and how it came to be.
The Office of Legacy Management was established in 2003 to manage DOE’s post-closure responsibilities and to ensure the future protection of human health and the environment through long-term stewardship. The histories of legacy sites vary, as do the regulatory regimes under which they are managed. Today, the Office of Legacy Management has responsibilities for over 100 sites associated with the Manhattan Project and the Cold War, spread across the country from Alaska to Puerto Rico.
