FORENSIC SCIENCE: IT’S REALLY NOTHING LIKE CSI — The Mound Science and Energy Museum (MSEM) is pleased to announce that Jennifer Watson, from the Miami Valley Regional Crime Laboratory, will be our guest speaker at our next WEDNESDAY NIGHT PRESENTATION on Nov. 19, 2014, at 7:00 PM. Jennifer’s presentation will cover the basics of forensic science and what it really entails. An overview of how a crime lab functions and all the disciplines (such as DNA, trace, fingerprints) within the Miami Valley Crime Laboratory will be discussed. The rest of the presentation will primarily be focused on information related to current drugs of abuse. Several of the more common drugs such as cocaine and heroin as well as the newer drugs that have been addressed in the media will be presented.

Jennifer Watson received a B.S. in forensic science from Eastern Kentucky University. She has since been employed with the Miami Valley Regional Crime Laboratory for almost 8 years as a forensic chemist. Jennifer is an active member of the Midwestern Association of Forensic Scientists (MAFS) and has given several presentations among her peers, served on committees, and taken on the role of program chair in the planning of the annual fall meeting in 2013. She participates in training opportunities often and has attended courses offered by MAFS, West Virginia University’s Forensic Science Initiative Program, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. In addition, she regularly teaches topics such as drug trends, drug manufacturing, and packaging of drug evidence to local law enforcement. She has been qualified as an expert witness in multiple Ohio counties and United States federal court.

Her presentation will take place at the MOUND SCIENCE AND ENERGY MUSEUM, 1075 Mound Rd., Miamisburg, OH, on November 19, 2014, at 7:00 PM. Presentation is free and is open to the public.
