Project PAPERCLIP: Bringing German Specialists to the U.S.A.
MOUND MUSEUM LECTURE SERIES SPOTLIGHTS
PROJECT PAPERCLIP: BRINGING GERMAN SPECIALISTS TO THE USA — Klaus Huber will provide a first-hand look at WWII’s “Project Paperclip,” when he is the guest speaker at Mound Science & Energy Museum Lecture Series. This most informative speech will take place on April 27, beginning at 7:00 PM. The Museum is located at 1075 Mound Road, Miamisburg, Ohio. Program is free and open to the public.
“Project Paperclip,” was the code name under which United States Intelligence and military services obtained scientists from Germany, during and after the final stages of World War II. The project was originally called “Operation Overcast,” and is sometimes also known as “Operation Paperclip”. Of particular interest were German scientists specializing in aerodynamics and rocketry (such as those involved in the V-1 and V-2 projects). These German scientists and their families were secretly brought to the United States, without State Department review and approval.
Klaus’ father was one of those German jet engine engineers and was brought over to the U.S. in 1945. Klaus and his mother followed three years later. The father worked at Wright Patterson Air Force for 43 years. Klaus followed in his father’s footsteps and also worked on jet engines for General Electric and APU’s (Auxiliary Power Units) for Garrett AiResearch. Klaus will share many interesting facts and memories about German scientists, the project and coming to the U.S.A. as a child.
